Hi,

Monday night’s clouds caused us to postpone David Rawsthorne’s Star Trails workshop yet again.

Macro photography by PHil Ramsden

Macro Photography Workshop with Phil Ramsden -
Saturday 10th May 2014-
4pm for 4:15pm at the PCYC

Can anyone guess what the above image is?

All is on track for next Saturday and we are very privileged to have such a knowledgeable photographer coming to give us this course in macro photography.
Philip Ramsden has been photographing for far too long to remember. Starting at Sydney College of TAFE in Medical Laboratory Technology where macro and micro photography was in the curriculum he progressed to a research position at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore Maryland USA. More of the same as well as preparing human specimens for microscopy. Returning to Sydney he worked at Pathology Departments in hospitals then was head hunted to work for Leica selling microscopes and teaching microscopy. This lead to a part time position at Sydney TAFE teaching Scientific Photography. Since retiring in 2000 Philip has worked for Foto Riesel in various positions involving microscopes and cameras.

Phil will give a short preliminary presentation and we will view some images and examples.

Please bring the following items: camera, film or digital, macro lens if available, zoom lens 70-200mm or thereabouts. For the workshop, Phil will be bringing a variety of Nikon lenses, tubes and flash as well as diffusers etc. If you have Canon, Sony or other brands, please beg or borrow a macro lens for the workshop. Phil will also bring some constant lights (Tungsten and LED) to be used by everyone.
Phil will be bringing a box of odds and ends, shells etc., that work well. It would be advantageous to bring some specimens of flowers, jewellery, insects or any small items you would like to photograph. Medical specimens if they are tasteful.
If you have a flash, please bring it also. Make sure the batteries are charged and spare memory cards and film are available.
A tripod will be essential.
Phil will be bringing Nikon gear including flash and lights which will be available to any Nikon users.
Most of all, you must bring enthusiasm and imagination.
A light afternoon tea refreshment will be served.
